Ebenezer Health Centre- Guma na Yesu

Written by

The rising tide of HIV/AIDS, which has continuously purged the economically active population in the country, has left behind a generation of parentless and helpless children and eroded the tradition of Orphan care being seen as a social obligation.  Orphans have outgrown the carrying capacity of the extended family and any interventions now require a community-based response.

In the South Western part of the country where subsistence agriculture is the main source of livelihood families have been devastated in terms of productive manpower. Areas neighboring countries in conflict displacement, encampment and redundancy has escalated the spread of HIV/AIDS and vulnerability while in other parts high population density unmatched by improved farming methods has resulted into food insecurity amongst the population.  Yet other areas are still remote in terms of accessing services related to HIV and other health problems and have few CBOs to give any support.

In this application entitled “IMPROVING THE HEALH OF ORPHANS, THEIR FAMILIES AND THE COMMUNITY IN GENERAL IN KAKIIKA MBARARA DISTRICT”, Guma Na Yesu – Ministries is soliciting for funds (($37707.45$ (96154000/=) to establish a health centre that will be named, “EBENEEZER HEALTH CENTRE” that will be located in Makenke, Kakiika in Mbarara district to provide health services to over 1200 orphans and the surrounding communities.

Intervention efforts by government, if they are to have full impact need to be supplemented by other players to strengthen and extend the outreach programs for a conducive environment for the survival and optimum growth of the Orphaned Vulnerable Children (OVC) hence the involvement of Guma Na Yesu Children’s centre in improving the livelihoods of the OVC.

I have hope that with the new Health Centre(EBENEEZER HEALTH CENTRE), vulnerable the orphans and communities will be reached with a minimum health and socio-economic package for sustainable development; and I call upon you to support Guma Na Yesu Children’s centre in the struggle and back the efforts of other development partners for the same cause. Thank you

Kingdom Secondary School

Kingdom secondary school  a private secondary schools in Makenke Mbarara. It is located in Kakiika subcountry, Kashari Constituency Mbarara district, in south western Uganda. It is a fully fledged mixed O  Level secondary school. It has an enrolment of 200 students (68 boys and 142girls). It has 16 members of the teaching staff and 5 members of the support staff. The mission of the school is: Supporting the needy and Vulnerable students with  access quality education guided by spiritual counsel .

This school was started with a greater need to help the students From Gumanayesu Children’s centre Who have gone through elementary school and have had a challenge to further their education due to lack of school dues , may children had resorted to dubious ways of getting money other ending up on streets , girls taken up as house maids to be able to earn a living because in Uganda an elementary education cannot earn someone a professional or decent job. I t was due to these challenges that Pr Naboth Tumuhairwe decided to raise his faith once again support these children through secondary Education through Kingdom secondary school . This school was started in 2011 with about 20 students and two teachers , it has grown to 200 students and 21 committed staff .

success 2013

Our students sat for their Uganda Certificate of Education Exams in OctoberNovember 2013  and passed very well , each student was able to have a Uganda Certificate of Education with flying colors !!!   This year 2014 we are expecting more and more success stories with our current Senior Four Students .   At kingdom we take success a priority adn we belive nothing is impossible before God ! as our MOTTO says With God Everything is Possible

Challenges and Needs
There is need for accommodation facilities for the learners.  dormitories for the increasing number as well as reducing congestion in the dormitories. Unlike only one block, all the other dormitories for boys are improvised. There is a great need for boys’ dormitories. Metallic beds are also needed to replace the old wooden ones.

The school needs science laboratory structures , Considering even the fact that computer studies are now part of the curriculum the school . There is a need for computers and a computer laboratory. There is need for a electricty installation in the school .

The school has recently been able to have acces to clean water with the provision of a over 3000 litre capacity cistern tank with clean running tapped water , this has been an amazing blessing from the ministry friends IN East OLYMPIA.

More structures need to be constructed for chapel, classrooms, administration block, main hall and dining hall.

Meager salaries for the staff are also a great challenge. There is need for better remuneration to keep the staff motivated and committed in doing their work. At times, good teachers leave the schools to better paying schools.

The school also needs a school truck for the children to help in transport to seminars and study trips.

Harvest Bible Institute

Written by

Most of the leaders working with Naboth and Alice are young men and women who deeply love the Lord but are ill-equipped for the tasks facing them. Many of them have never received any formal education at while others have received only primary school education.
Very few-less than 10 out of the 150-have reached secondary school.

More disturbing to Naboth and Alice, however, is the lack of adequate information about ministry. Virtually all the leaders had even never had the most basic instruction about ministry.
They also lack clear knowledge of foundation doctrines of the Christian faith.
To alleviate this situation, Naboth and Alice have partnered up with Josh and Ann Dunagun  to  open  up HARVEST BIBLE INSTITUTE (HBI). The institute provides intensive short term courses in foundational Christian doctrine and ministry, for the start. The courses are residential, lasting one week each monthat a time.
9 courses are held in one year. Emphasis is laid on how to do ministry within the rural African context.
The institute admits any one called to the ministry but priority is given to those already in leadership positions. Courses taught in English with interpretation into all the local languages of students who won't be able to understand English. Both leaders from Redeemed  Church and from other churches are accepted.
The institute is located at the  Central Redeemed Church Makenke Mbarara , a few steps from the simba batalion miltary barracks  base .  A fee of not more than 10 dollars per student is charged to cover costs for scholastic materials.
Accommodation and food will be free.

Guma na Yesu Children's Centre

Written by

In Southern Uganda -  Naboth and Alice have been helping approximately 725 needy orphans. This couple haven't had much to work with, but they've been doing everything possible to extend the love of Jesus. To meet the basic needs, they've been digging-up cassava from their garden . . . they've been selling-off whatever they can for food and necessities . . . their teachers have been working without any salary . . . and they've all been praying hard.

Earn all you can and save all you can to give all you can for as long as you can ,an effective Leader will invest his life ,his money ,his time and all he has for the kingdom of God ,Alice and Naboth have invested all in what God has called them to do, for the last 18years ,and GOD has proved faithful to them. JOB 42:1-2 ''I know that you can do everything and that no purpose of yours can be withheld from you''

The name of the Project is Guma na Yesu.To remember this African word (from the Runyankole language), just think of the word "GUM" . . . and imagine chewing a sweet, delicious, sticky wad of GUM . . . and to keep chewing it for a long, long time. The name of this new orphanage project is Guma Na Yesu (pronounced "Goom-uh nuh Yay-soo") - which means "Keep with Jesus!" The long-term vision is to care for hundreds of orphan children through the support network of a strong Christian church and caring Ugandan families.

The vision is to build a Guma Na Yesu Children's Center - with a free orphan school, basic provisions (of food, clothing, and educational supplies), and a family support base - to enable hundreds of orphans to be adopted into Christian families.

The vision is for each orphan child to "keep" with Jesus for their entire lives!

Here are a few pictures of the children . . . and the current building progress.

The heart of this orphanage project is to train children in the Word of God and in a life of knowing God - so they can fulfill God's purpose. These children experience the presence of God daily - through prayer, child-led preaching, and through fervent worship and dancing.

These children love Jesus . . . and their heavenly Father loves them.

Who We are
The Lord is just begining to give a new vision for Guma Na Yesu and through His wisdom and direction, He's showing us how the needs of these children can be met. This orphan ministry is founded and directed by African ministers, Naboth and Alice of Southern Uganda. Currently, this work is being assisted by USA evangelists Jon & Ann Dunagan of Harvest Ministry.

The vision for Guma Na Yesu is for it to be nationally-directed on the local level, by Ugandan ministers, teachers, and church families -- under the blessing and direction of JESUS Christ and the authority of God's Word.

How you can Help us
The need is very big . . . beginning with several thousand dollars a month . . . for basic food and sustainance needs for these 725 children (not including any building construction, educational needs, or on-going support). Please pray with us for God's abundant provision. And if you want to help, do let us know.

Where we are located
This East African orphanage center is being built in a central area in Mbarara in Southern Uganda. This is a needy area, where there are many orphan children.

Guma Na Yesu Children's Center is currently under construction - on a hilltop property next to one of Pastor Naboth's new church facilities - directly above a Ugandan military base.

Kingdom Vocational Training Centre

Written by

KINGDOM YOUTH EMPOWERMENT VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTER is found in Mbarara District at Naboth and ALICE\'S central church in Rwebishuri   .This association was started as a result of greater need to help the needy children at Guma Na Yesu Orphanage School. Guma Na Yesu Orphanage School is a full primary school with seven classes and a population of 700 pupils Today .The school started in 2007 as a church founded orphanage school to help educate the orphans and the needy children.

Each Academic year over 50 pupils finish their primary level at Guma Na Yesu Orphanage School, since there was no secondary school at Guma Na Yesu , These pupils would normally drop out of school with no help to continue their education ,Some of the Children would  end up on streets looking for petty jobs ,This practice had caused some of these children to engage in destructive behaviors like drug abuse, girls getting   married off at an early age .

Our target is mainly to engage these orphans who have finished p.7 and those who are about to finish , so that they become part of the project that will transform their lives.

The main goal of this project is to restore hope and a bright future of our youth by creating a wide and open opportunity to empower them, through small skilled business that will spawn and promote their lives.

We have categorized these programs into five groups

  1. carpentry and JOINERY (WOODWORK)

This is a great skill that helps the orphans especially boys to be able to earn a living and further their education through savings .We started with 5 children since we do not have enough tools.

We also have an experienced carpenter who teaches carpentry .This is a two year course, therefore we started with primary five class so that by the time they finish primary seven, they will be fully equipped with full knowledge in carpentry and joinery. We shall increase on the number of intake once we acquire enough tools and resources to run and facilitate the program.

This Program was selected as an ideal activity that could help the orphans to both earn a living and be able to feed as well. We have not started on this program as yet as it requires capital.

We initially suggested starting with 500 layers; these normally take 2 months to mature. Well fed and looked after, this could harvest over 60 trays of eggs everyday and a tray of eggs goes for 8000 ug shillings that is about 5$ US DOLLARS @ tray. 60 Trays would mean 300$ US Dollars saved everyday. This money can be saved and be used to further their education (orphans)

Goat keeping is one of the most profitable income generating activities in Uganda today .Goats are easy to look after and their yields are high. A goat goes for 100,000-150,000 Uganda shillings, that is 60 $ US Dollars. We believe this will bring in a lot savings .The children will be able to continue their secondary education through these savings .We have started with Two goats and we shall increase on the number of goats kept with time as soon as resources are available.

In today’s world a computer has become an important tool, we therefore want to make it possible for every child to be computer literate. This program involves every child at Guma Na Yesu Orphanage School. We have made it a point of the curriculum and once In a week every class gets to learn about the computer. We have three dedicated and experienced teachers who use, once the facilitation is available, we hope to have a dedicated classroom block, well equipped with computers (computer laboratory) where computer lessons will be conducted.

We teach sewing as a skill, to children, we started with 10 children, since we do not have enough sewing machines. We hope to increase on the number of intake as soon as the resources are available .Once the Children are through with their primary level they can start their own businesses of making clothes , we have already realized benefits of this program because some of the pupils can now make uniforms for the rest of the kids. We give enough time to practice and perfect their newly acquired skills .This has both benefited the school and the pupils them selves.

  1. To promote self sustaining and equip beneficiaries (orphans) with skills that will help them achieve their future dreams
  2. To start income generating projects such as poultry farming ,goat keeping ,and other small scale businesses which will raise the standards of living and further orphans studies.
  3. To create an environment of hope and shape the future of this young generation and disengage them from the activities that might ruin their lives like drug abuse, early marriage for girls.
  4. To create a wall that will safeguard the youth from engaging in destructive to a more creative and useful environment that will promote discipline and self reliance.

  1. Lack of resources and facilities to enable this project advance. Enough capital is needed to engage all programs effectively.
  2. Lack of enough space (Land) to put all the programs and activities for easy co-ordination
  3. More teachers and trainers are needed; therefore their facilitation in form of salaries is not yet available.

  1. The construction KINGDOM VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE   has started   in Rwebishuri Mbarara. To be equipped with the necessary facilitation like classrooms, workshops, latrines. And an office. Though the space available is not enough.
  2. Construction of a poultry farm house (chicken house) this will be a standard construction as recommended by the district health and veterinary officer. Before the program starts.
  3. We need to acquire enough tools that will facilitate our programs. We need to have enough sewing machines (20), carpentry tools, and enough computers to run the program (10) recommended.
  4. After the training , there id need to equip the beneficiaries of these programs with tools to start off their business ,example if a group of five is blessed with a sewing machine at the end of each course , this group could use this as an opportunity to kick start their careers or businesses and this program will have achieved its goal
